I was recently (last week) indexed on page 6 in Uk Google search for 'purchase domain'....now I (PurchaseDOMAIN.co.uk - Brandable Business Names For Sale - Home) seem to have disappeared entirely?!

All I have done to my site recently is update homepage, add a new page, used web forwarding to PD with other urls.

Any ideas as to where and why I've gone?

Thanks in advance. Paul.

Hi Takwa,

Thanks for your reply.

I have been monitoring my position on a weekly basis and I have been gradually going up from page 9 to page 6 over the last couple of months for that paticular search, but now I cant see myself in the top 12 pages at least.

It seems strange to disappear so quickly and I wonder if my web forwarding from other names I trade under has affected my position?

it depends to what extent you have been doing this.

Hi DirDn

I think it must be having an effect as while doing a search yesterday I wasn't even in the top 40 pages for the UK search.

I have about 10 domains now forwarding to PD and also mask some of the urls, so I will 'undo' this and hopefully I will pop back in without to much time and effort (famous last words!).

good luck with that, there are ways to get round this, you can still do it, but you just have to box clever so they dont know its you, if you want some tips on how to get round it PM me

Maybe some of your competitors might doing well in their link building that's why your keyword ranking has decreased.

Not sure..

I just think it seems too dramatic a drop for me to be pushed out by at least 35 pages over the space of a couple of days.

Has anyone else had/overcome this sort of problem before with web forwarding/url masking?

It certainly because of the changes you made on your site. One thing, I want to know, have you changed your content also?

What about Title tag?

a drop of one or two might be down to this, but not to the extent he as experienced.
Have you been doing any link building recently?

Thanks all for your help/input on this.

Mit, I have slightly changed the content on my homepage. I also wiped 1 incoming link. I think I will try to get things back to how the were and see what happens.

How long do y'all think it will take to resolve if I put things back to as they were?

Thought about?

A few quick thoughts:

1. Do you have a webmaster central account? If so take a look at how you get organic traffic from Google.

2. Get a trial account on wordtracker and see if there are other terms that might be less obvious/competitive that have search volume and optimise for those. We do this for every article we write - include wordtracker researched keywords throughout.

3. Being on page 9 or page 6 is not so different - ie we'd get no traffic to a site from a page 9 listing or a page 6 listing and it's easy to get hung up on it. It's not something I'd worry about. I'd more focus on winning for a number of different terms.

With the first updated Google cache for these changes will let you know.

Thanks John. Although I am focused on other terms, I still wanted to improve this ranking as the term is exactly the same as the name of the website and obviously I wish to improve all my rankings for whatever term. I will definitely look into the wordtracker account.

Thanks to everyones help here and a few ideas I've also had, Im fairly confident I can bring it back on track 'dreckly' (as they say in Cornwall!).

Cheers all.
