We're supporting Safer Internet Day 2014, which aims to promote the safe and responsible use of online technology and mobile phones for children and young people.
This year's theme is 'Let's create a better internet together'. The day focuses on the creative activities that children and young people are doing online, as well as the role and responsibility that we all have in helping to create a better internet.
We’ve done some research with parents and children aged 10-16, and found that while kids start using social media at nine, less than a third of parents feel ‘very confident’ about helping them stay safe.
So for Safer Internet Day we’re highlighting our new quiz for parents called The Social Age. With new trends emerging all the time, it’s designed to test parents’ knowledge of social networking. We’ve also got handy guides on how to protect children online, as well as some advice from 10-16 year olds on how best to approach talking about the issues.
With more than 11 million internet devices given this Christmas, and with more kids using the internet earlier than ever before, having the skills to stay safe online has never been more crucial. We’re really pleased to be supporting this year’s event*and to be part of the first ever Safer Internet Day TV.
