Retro and Vintage computers

I've got an XT with 10Mb hard drive. I did manage to run Windows 3 on it way back. Hercules graphics card made it look quite good. They don't build them like that any more. Built like a tank.

Same here, i have a couple of IBM XT's and the IBM XT 286 model, not surprisingly the hard drive's sound like jet engine's when powered up :D

Cheers
Malc

Oric was a classic! Good choice. I'm currently restoring an old IBM XT :)

So far sold an Electron, Sinclair Spectrum, QL, 2600 and a few more....oh yeah and a Z88. Having a clear out. Still got a Z80 and Z81.

I sold my no longer working Spectrum 48k rubber key version not so long ago on eBay. Got around £28 for it which I was quite pleased with!

I would think that at a certain point in the future perhaps in 20 or 30 years, when most 8-bit computers have been disposed of or do not work, that good condition working ones will sky rocket in value, much like vintage cars or dinky toys. I'm half tempted to buy a few hundred and stuff them in my loft.

Yes its funny what things go for. I have some traditional antiques - collectables such as stuff from Coronation, Charles and Diana, pottery. But people just do not want it all. Find the old machines are selling really well. I'm having a global clearout and find stamps [presentation packs] are worthless and I'll be cashing in for the value of the stamps. Old magazines are also poor. Having an antique sewing machine: just saw one sell for £5 on ebay that worked. Its crazy the value of traditional antiques seems to have hit rock bottom.

Perhaps if you are a collector, now is a good time to buy. I'm keeping some things, but getting shot of most things as I'm fed up with the space it takes. Still I'll hedge my bets and keep some items like the ZX80 and ZX81 and a few Sinclair calculators. I sold a QL for £200 recently, so there is a market for retro computers out there. However just do not have the time to play with them all or the patience to store them.

Hah, now we're going back. My first computer was a vic 20. I remember at the time thinking it was amazing :)
