Hi.

I've purchased a few domains over the past 9 months with the intention of reselling them but have never actually sold one. I have no idea what the process is and was wondering if some of you more experienced domainers could clue me in as to how it's done step-by-step. Some of them I have listed some of them on Sedo but I would also like to be able to sell domains independently.

Also, I have purchased all my domains from either One.com or 123-reg.co.uk. Would the selling process be different if purchased from registrars or is it essentially the same?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Johnny

It's probably more important what .ext they are in the first instance rather than registra.

Are the .com's or .uk's?

Some .co.uk's, .info's and a .net.

Can you recommend any sites that have a step-by-step guide on selling domains?

It doesn't matter who you regged a domain with.

To sell a domain, .co.uk extension, you take their money then transfer the domain through nominet online services to the buyer by email for a transfer fee of £10 + vat. That's it.

The easy answer with the ICANN names is for the purchaser to use the same registrar. You can ask the registrar to "push" the name to the new owner, and provide their details. That's usually free or very cheap. Then, if the new owner wants to change registrars, they can sort it out in conjunction with their chosen registrar.

You're getting the funny answers because this is a UK domain forum ...

What confuses me is, once the money has been paid buy the purchaser, how do they know that the seller will not just take the money without transferring over the domain? Is there a third party involved in the transaction or is there a lot of trust required for this?

And to keep everyone happy:D

Notify the domain registar (123-reg etc) and submit a ticket to say you've sold it and remove from your account.

Helps others down the line ;)

All about trust & reputation, just like anything you buy/sell on something like ebay(albeit that has a certain level of protection), if a buyer is wary/you're wary as a buyer you can use an escrow service, i.e. the money is held by a third party until the domain is transferred, Sedo works in that way so you can always send a sale through there.
