Hi,

When trying to register, I kept getting the message "you email address has been banned".

Since I've never been to this forum before, I knew that probably wasn't true.

Eventually I figured out that you don't want people signing up with "gmail" account.

I think it would be clearer if your message was more accurate, and maybe it should say that on the screen right beside the email box.

Since so many people use gmail as their primary email address, it could save a lot of frustration.

Looking forward to reading the forum now that I'm in :)

Having not signed up more than once here, and given I joined a long time ago, I didn't know about this. I think it's a good idea to force people to use "proper domain name email accounts" rather than throw away free ones. This stops anyone who's banned from signing up again easily.

Welcome to the forum.
I don't think he is disputing that. I think he is saying there is no message to say that you can't sign up with a free email address.

Yes, that's my point. I totally get why you want to disallow free email accounts, but when you tell someone "your email address has been banned" it is not clear -- it could be preventing many people from registering.

Good point well made, I'll try to figure out where to change it in VB.

I banned quite a few different email addresses, free ones and dubious ones (that are unlikely to be from people in countries interested in the UK domain space).

It keeps AD much more spam free.
