I'm looking to buy a load of old domains that have backlinks still pointing to them. I'm not concerned with the actual names as I won't be using them for branding.

The back links have got to be good and not seo sh1t type ones - what I mean is that the site needs to look totally natural.

This list is really helpful - is there any software that can be used to compile these lists and show other domain factors like google page rank?

Hi Olde,

I actually have a webpage on my site: http://www.anthonyshapley.co.uk/domain-names/uk-domains-with-links/

This script updates every Sunday, it incorporates all the most recent drops from the prior week.

You could easily pull the PageRank of each using ScrapeBox, I could add it into the site, but it comes with an awful lot of hassle, due to proxies and stuff.

Anyway hope it helps and feedback is welcomed.

Ant - This is absolutely brilliant, thanks for this.

All the name sales I see are mostly valued on their branding/name and not on their seo value.

Do you know anywhere that sells domains with PR and a good backlink profile and the seller doesn't want £x,xxx my budget would be £30-£100 per domain depending on their seo value.

Cheers, John

Hi John,

I'd look at GoDaddy Domain Auctions and Flippa, but your unlikely to pick up .uk domains on either.

Generally though, I'm pretty sure if you picked up 5 - 10 of the domains in my list, scraped archive.org and left them for a good few months they'd regain page rank.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
Anthony

Post no longer relevant, thanks chaps..

Tricky1, sure - if you just PM me the domain, or if someone replies with his name I'll remove it.

The problem with buying domains with backlinks more now than it ever was is post penguin you could be buying something thats completely toxic.

Even more due diligence required.

That's a very good thought, how do you assess the quality of any back links?

PageRank and 'page rank' are different things.

I think there are some important things to consider here:

The Panda Algorithm is irrelevant to these domain names, the Panda Algorithm is entirely based on on-site updates, so a site that had been previously been knocked by Panda, provided its well setup - has as much chance of ranking as everything else. If not more given the History of the Links.

The Penguin Algorithm is of course related to links, although if your just using these domains to harness equity towards a bigger site, its not of too much concern.. the problem only comes when you want to rank these old domains for specific terms. If you wanted to find out if a domain had been hit by Panda (or Penguin) in the past the easiest way to do so is get a Search Metrics account and cross reference and large drops (40%+) against SEO Moz's algorithm update page. If any coincide with the same weeks, might be worth giving a miss.

As for there being a difference between PageRank and page rank, I'm not entirely sure what that is, but I'll keep calling Google's PageRank whichever as thats the only one I'm personally interested in.

SEO has changed so much now tho since last year. Links have so many variables now. More than they ever did before.

IMHO buying any domains or websites off anyone until Google has a "disallow" function in GWMT is playing with fire. The market is so toxic with people trying to flog panda'd and penguin'd sites/domains.

Buying/catching anything in the vein hope to pickup past pagerank or link benefits unless its a really choice domain is just a mugs game imho. People will continue to do it but if you cant see that Google has declared war on links then you must be blind.

Working out how to game +1 is a much better bet

Agree that it is a dangerous game to buy domains, just for their historical links.

But, to be honest with you, it's really easy to identify the spam from the real stuff.

I've brought dropped domains that have held pr in the past and gone on to develop as sites and use for link juice.

It won't take google long to work out to devalue all existing links to dropped domains.

Why should a new domain owner benefit from links and pagerank to a domain name that had history when it dropped and had no site for 90 days or more.

Additionally why should google penalise new domain owners because that domain was previously spammed. Businesses that don't understand seo and domains could effectively buy a domain that has been blacklisted and struggle to rank organically.

Well should it stop working, I will turn off the page and stop looking at the data, but right now - I've ran tests, buying expired domains that have been N/A (completely reset). I've put similiar topic sites back online, not identical (using archive.org, to see what the sites and URL structure was like before) - these are now ranking on page 1 on some fairly decent terms with minimal effort from me. No interest in Link Juice, just rankings.

However from a Link Juice POV - these same sites I ran this test on all regained Toolbar PageRank over the last update which was last week.
