Could someone tell me if there is an email Automaton request
that can be made to Nominet to delete a domain and how quickly does
that take effect ?.

DG

A new registration can be deleted, until Nominet have received payment (normally 6-8 weeks is allowed). For an existing domain deletion is only possible manually, via Nominet.

The delete command, if valid, will take effect immediately. This can only be done by the original Tag that registered the domain.

Is it possible that "can" could also be "should" ?

DG

"Only the tag holder that submitted the original application can delete a domain name. Domain names that have been retagged cannot be deleted."

it also has to be a recognised pgp encrypted request, as all tag related requests are.

Does that mean that Nominet would actually check the pgp signature
manually, or would it be done automatically and block the request.
Or could the request go ahead and then when the domain owner
complained they would find the wrong signature ?.
Just checking the feasibility of something may have gone on .

DG

PGP signatures are checked automatically, any error and the instruction will be rejected.

"You can only delete domains that are on your tag. If you attempt to delete a domain that is not on your tag then that may be considered abuse of the Automaton."

The pgp encryption signature is verified automatically according to the public key that is tested when the tag is registered and then manually verified by phone according to the 40 character hex code.

No domains can be registered or modified on that tag until this is done. The details for this are in the tag holders section of the nic.uk site

Thanks. Ah ok, so there is absolutely no way that someone
could delete a domain on another tag. I am not talking of such thing
being found put later, but that the Tag is checked automatically before
a request is allowed to delete a name. I was just thinking ,out loud,
as to whether some devious person might in past have deleted domains
that were on another tag,and then registered them for themselves ?
Not possible from what you say though,

DG

dg,

definitely not possible.

domains on a particluar tag can only be administered by that particular tag. Before any instruction is considered the PGP key is verified with the current tag by the automaton, if it does not match then a rejection error is returned.

Regards.

Thanks. I was just looking at the possibilities but if that
is the case, as another party did not have the pgp signature,
then it would be impossible. I was wondering out loud
if some clever so and so had/could delete a suspended
domain and then immediately send a request to register
it ?.
