Ok - that sounds a good price. The offer was far lower than that. Not sure if an end user or another domainer.
May I ask how why you think it would be worth that price? Quite a competitive area with a number of sites doing a listings / directory and mostly free.
There are a lot of sites letting bad breeders sell dogs for free. And also a lot of sites displaying very old, out of date & misleading ads. Very frustrating from a user experience viewpoint and certainly most dont try in any shape or form to stop the chavs and irresponsible dog owners from participating.
There is money to be made by charging reputable breeders to advertise litters and also if you allowed UGC of the breeders/sellers by requiring users sign up to gain access to the breeder contact info you establish credibility for what you are trying to offer. You could try angle it many ways potentially...
Dont forget insurance, food, toys adverts and sales. Also in time hopefully a decent mailing list. Chuck in a forum for breed enthusiasts to participate in and you add even more value. You could if you generated enough page impressions also sell CPM ad space out to a small rep house and make extra cash.
I guess it would be more a labour of passion rather than a cold hearted money spinner. Theres faster ways to make money
In fact you should definitely not sell it for cheap to ensure whoever buys it has proper intentions....
Thanks for your detailed response. Ok not an area I know much about as never owned a dog but some good ideas there! Much appreciated.
Yeh the offer i received was $100, which realistically is not much more than what i paid for it to be caught. Of course I can counter offer but I do like what you suggested - again just the time and the commitment.
You seem to know about this abit - are there no directory sites that 'just' have reputable dog breeders?
there are sites like the kennel club which list their approved or registered breeders. Then there are breed specific associations who list their breeders.
it just seems, to me, like a really crowded and badly run niche.
Exceptions are sites like www.labradoodles.co.uk who I am currently getting a dog from.... proper proper site and hardcore nutter breeder enthusiast running the shop.
Pets.. especially dogs and cats etc are such emotive subjects for many people that personally I wouldnt want to get involved in a niche like that unless I was a committed enthusiast or professional breeder with all the knowledge... if you catch my drift.
Of course pet specific products like beds, toys and all the other shit is retail so of course personally a more attractive pet niche.
