Public Vs Private catchers

How much better would a private catcher be vs a public one?.

Say If I booked a domain with all the public catchers I could, maybe 6/7, and a private catcher also wanted the same domain and that was the only domain they were after that day, who would be more likely to catch it?.

The main advantage private catchers have is the ability to put all their polling quota in a given day into one name if they choose to. If you compare 1 private catcher versus 1 public catcher (all other things being equal) it is probably more likely the private catcher has a better chance. Having said that you don't know the quality of the respective scripts, how they are choosing to allocate their quota (and obviously luck has a large part to play!)

Statistically the more catchers (public or private) you book with the better chance you have obviously. Personally I have got various catches through Domain Monster which I have simultaneously had booked with other public catchers and on occasion private catchers...I don't know what's different with their script but it just strikes me as having an edge from personal experience.

I'm very new to this, last month there were a couple of domains I would have liked, nothing premium, not the sort of top name everyone would have been interested in but I would have liked them, but I only booked them with one public catcher and I missed out on them..

Trying to learn from that, so for a couple I want this month I've booked them with every public catcher I could well in advance, including domainmonster so hopefully they will come good.

Would you rate domainmonster as the best public catcher currently?.

It's been the best for me but again that may just be down to a run of good luck I've had with them.

I think the best approach is always to book with as many as you can (certainly from among the No Win No Fee ones)

Book with as many as possible to maximise your chances. There is a lot of luck involved too. Even when I direct all my catching resources to a single domain i'm still one of a number of catchers where milliseconds and luck plays a large part in the result

I have recently got a couple of domains I wanted with caught.co.uk

I am very happy with them and will be using them

So I guess it is possible to get the domains you want with public catchers (these probably weren't domains with much/any competition though) but I'm extremely happy to get them.
