Protecting Yourself From Bad Buyers When Selling Top Level Domains

Hi Guys

I need to downsize my portfolio a bit so that I can concentrate on the affiliate stuff, so I'm going to be joining dnforum.com to sell some of my top level domains. On here, I usually ask for payment via bank transfer. When selling on other forums it looks like I'll have to ask for payment via PayPal.

I'd just like any tips to protect yourself from bad buyers, especially when being paid via PayPal. Can anyone tell me what the particular risk is from PayPal, is it from payment reversals?

I've heard of a few scams where people do a reversal - verified paypal and a buyers reputation on dnforum should assist in preventing them - but it's not without risk. For any larger sales use escrow.com worth the fee to have a 3rd party involved IMO.

How do I establish that their PayPal account is verified?

where 'email' is their paypal ID. Seem to remember that when I got verified they sent something to the registered address and also did a payment into my bank account - so it's some additional protection.

Yes the verification process is as mentioned above by "getmein" but, virtually all sellers and buyers of domains are verified paypal members - they can still request a charge-back

If the sale is less than a couple a hundred dollars, your probably Ok with paypal. Otherwise stick with Escrow.

Do remember if your working on DNforum - virtually the entire membership is American based. anything non-american in spelling or wording will just draw a blank. Personally I've learnt to search a term that I propose selling to the Non -Uk market on

If you get around a 1:10 ratio your normally on safe ground.

Tend to agree that American spelling and terms are king also found when post count was low that the offers were low.. As it increased so did the offer prices… Not sure if was because people thought we were green and could get a bargain or the trust level was lower ? Pay pal is ok xxx anything over would use escrow or alike service

My understanding is now that you should not use PayPal for an amount greater than you are prepared to lose totally, as the buyer can dispute the transaction and will always win regardless as PayPal regards a domain as an intangible.

So, if you are going to accept payment via PayPal, you need to be extra picky about who your buyer is.
