Advice please - i was after a pre-nom to develop a site for my own use. 10 months on i have smanaged to track down and speak to the owner.

The domain is not being used (not even parked) and as i now know how much he wants for it i wondered if i would be better to buy it and sell it on straightaway rather than developing it.

The domain is a plural of a dictionary word that could appeal to several types of business (unfortunately not such a good word that it would appeal to big brand organisations) so is it worth pursuing?

Very tricky question to answer without knowing the name, which for obvious reasons I'm sure can't be disclosed.

Depends on a number of factors. If you buy a really good generic name sometimes it's frustrating to actually bring yourself to do anything with it as you want to truly capitalise on it's value.

If you have the time and money to pursue it as a site then I would. If domaining is just a side line and a decent profit can be made then I would be tempted to sell as realising a domain's true value can be a full time (albeit ultimately very rewarding) job.

thanks- very much a sideline, I guess a better question is, is a reasonable pre-nom worth £1200?

It's impossible to say without knowing the domain, the fact that its a prenom means very little. Is a reasonable domain worth £1200, how long is a piece of string..............

Being a prenom adds no value. Plenty of prenoms dropped that where never re-registered.

Fair comment - the more i think about it the more i wonder - i am sure if it was any good one of you lot would have got it by now ;)

I say name the domain, if it took you 10 months to track the owner down its unlikely that anyone will be able to steal the sale.

or if you want to pm me, I'll give you an honest opinion.

Never go for the second option, you're on a track go with it. Human nature says do first reaction, human brains says be an idiot and think about it.

After you decide and make a move (or not) can you then tell us what the domains is? :D

How quickly would you earn the 1.2k back if you developed it? Any idea?
