Why do people insist on posting replies to threads that just say "pm sent"

Why do we need to know?
Why does the person receiving the PM need to have a post too?

Typical example, someone has just posted a sales thread (not me) and its had one viewing as the top post and *bang* someone has come along and put "pm sent" on an older thread and knocked it off the top spot.

Why?

yeah I know really gets on my tits too - the silly twats - they just like to let everyone know to look at me 'the daddy' has arrived, and has made a £19 purchase... well done..

pm sent

Acorn... what do expect :) There are some utter clowns on here sometimes, but you have just got to laugh!

(This post expires in 24 hrs, then will be put back on the shelf and I am never posting again! Until tomorrow when another gash list will be posted.)

The one that really gets my goat is 'editing' of previous posts, often the sales threads where prices have been reduced. no trace of the history of the price, comments etc, all gone up in smoke.

Actually i haven't got a lot of problem with this - it kind of lets everyone know that there is some interest

Meh, happens on shed loads of forums. I think it's due to the post count : epenis size correlation. Can't see the point in trying to stop it. It will only only end up with more bitching I bet...

I try not to be the first to post a "PM sent" to a thread... but when I see half a dozen such posts already in the thread, I get this itchy feeling that if I don't post one then my PM may go to the bottom of the heap, especially if there's a lot of "action" going on.

Personally, I get an email alert for every PM, so a "PM sent" message is utterly unnecessary for threads I start, but I suppose for busy people who haven't opted into the email option it does serve as a tidy in-one-place reminder of who's tried to communicate with them.

I don't imagine anyone really cares as all the unnecessary mentioned PMs are in the sales threads anyway, and besides if somebody specifically requests PM (only) responses - why not.

I've got a habit of CC'ing emails I send, particularly those in domain negotiations and replies to an alternative BT mailbox, then at least I know I've got a validated copy and reference point.

That said, I can see your point about having at least some exposure at the top of a sales-thread - I guess we have all learnt to follow any particular sales we may be interested in, and ignoring the rest.

The ones that get my goat are:

"anymore interest before I close" (2-3 days running)
"extending this to allow the world to turn"
"final price" - yeah but that was yesterdays final price - not todays

And of course Robs classic reference -just how many domains does it take to fill a shelf ?

I've always thought that 'PM sent' of mostly to put a timed claim in public view, plus it does draw attention to a sales topic where there is some activity.

I always remove the domain list when a sale is closed, as the buyers often prefer this.
