I was not sure where to post this. I'm looking to start another website, a blog in a particular industry. I'm looking for the domain for the job. I've found the perfect domain on the wrong gtld, it is a .info.

I am probably not as against a .info as most people seem to be. I want to question that and ask for your opinion on values as well. Are the valuations shockingly low and why? Would you ever consider building a site on one? I am because the domain before it is perfect and unbuyable on .com. Surely they have their place and there are some good sites on .info.

Do they ever sell for decent money? Hopefully i will buy it very soon and then I can tell you what it is and you can all laugh at me.

:p

I'm sure the board administrator will move if its felt to be in the wrong place :p

No idea. But personally I see it as a third rate, used by a PPI company type domain.

If all others were just parked, and that was the only generic (rather than country specific) extension around, then probably.

I think they may be a bit of a Marmite extension, and if you verbally tell people the extension, you know that some will end up at the .com

I hope you won't be putting this new website on your'e usual template ;)

I saw 'shredding.info' on the side of a lorry today - thought it was a bit strange but they seemed to be doing alright with it.

So I've got the .info.....

TechNews.info

I have a name in my portfolio that I could have used but I'd need to disavow a lot of its backlinks: talkdigi.com

What would you go with ?

I like .info. as a forum you can probably get away with it. As a commercial venture to splash millions on TV ads etc maybe not.

On a side note, this is why I consider ngtlds as a flop, because by implication if .info was a ngtld launching last year it would be lauded as the best thing since sliced bread due to its incredible descriptive nature. Yet with a 10 year head start it still struggles to get any real traction compared to .com or cctlds (you could even say the same for .net)

I agree. That might be the most lucid, coherent, easy to understand and positive post you've ever made!

I think in almost all cases the ngtld's are awful and will never gain traction.

Really don't like it at all

Not a big fan of "Tech News" on the whole, quite bland, nothing distinguishing about it, matched with .info, bit of a stinker.

I think it's true to say that TechNews.info does not have any distinctiveness. Whether this is a major problem or not depends on whether much investment is going to be made in branding the name. If no investment, then it does not matter so much, as you can just market on the usual channels like social media. If you were trying to establish a brand and excite advertisers though, choose a brandable name.

Unless there's literally zero budget for the project, I'd try and find a .com for it. Either buy one on the aftermarket, or make something "brandable" up - either will serve you better than that particular .info...

Really not a fan of TechNews.info at all. .info only works well with single words imo.
