Hi I'm new to this forum and catching detagged domains in general. I'm planning on trying to catch a 3 letter .org.uk domain. I have a couple of questions.

1. I've looked around the forums and noticed there is alot of discussion about .co.uk and very little about .org.uk. Do .org.uk have a lot lower value? and would there be much competition for a 3 letter .org.uk (that doesn't spell a recongisable word or acryonm)? In fact a lot of good .org.uk domains are unregistered.

2. What would be the best way for me to secure the domain? From googling I can only find dropcatcher.co.uk and pool.com that provide backordering of .org.uk domains. The articles I've read suggest you should sign up for as many services as possible, is this the case? Are there any other services?

3. Will the domain always drop sometime on the 90th day after expiry?

4. Anything else I should know?

Thanks for your help,

JI

Correct, .org.uk is not a particularly sought after extension, and they are of much less value than the .com or .co.uk (or .org I suppose) equivalents.

Competition is fairly unlikely on this extension if it's not a word or common acronym. Certain combinations of letters are more sought after than others. If you want it, I guess you'd still better make arrangements, because you never know who else might be after it.

Dropcatcher.co.uk is a name often mentioned in this forum. I've never used them myself but I believe at one time they provided a good service, and good dropcatching skills, but I'm not sure of the current status. There are other drop catching services but they are American sites and wouldn't have the performance of dropcatcher.co.uk (at it's best).

You're going about things the right way - find a few good dropcatching services and sign up with them. Sorry, but I don't have detailed recommendations.

I've heard that figure for .co.uk, I don't know whether it applies to .org.uk, see nominet.org.uk for info.

All the best

Take a look at the website www.deleting.co.uk and you will now often see 3 letter .org.uk domains caught by well know private catchers (two or three were caught today). It's possible the one you're after is not on their list but if it is then it's going to be difficult to beat them to the domain but still worth a try.

I've been doing a little research and there is a tag that is grabbing all the 3 letter .org.uk's without any regard at all. But whenever its a good 3 letter .org.uk a different tag gets it. Do you think dropcatcher.co.uk would be able to beat this tag?

It's hard to get the free slots though unfortunately. I just grabbed a domain a saw on deleting.co.uk, we'll see soon what the imput is on it!

It was hitrecords.co.uk, posted in appraisals now :)

No harm in trying, especially as Drop Catcher are currently offering free catching slots.
