Back in 2009 the affiliate / SEO expert Frank Paul (http://www.smingle.co.uk/) made a post on the Affiliates4u forum that over time became very popular:

http://www.affiliates4u.com/forums/...-people-who-need-kick-up-backside-2009-a.html

He offered carefully selected domain names, including those with an org.uk extension and suggested people register them.

I had a quick look at some of the .org.uk domains mentioned and of the ones I checked a number of them don’t have a website up for them – which makes me think it was possibly not that worthwhile to have attempted setting up a website for them in the first place……. But I could be completely wrong………..

Obviously many people – especially affiliates, would first of all like to register a .com or a .co.uk domain, if they want to register a keyword domain for e.g. an affiliate website. But as many of us know, the best ones are long gone, but sometimes the .org.uk extension is available.

A few affiliates I’ve come across claim that .org.uk domains do/can rank highly in search engines, when the main keyword is used.

So my question to all of you is would you recommend registering an .org.uk domain name (if you could not get the .com or .co.uk)? Do you have any experience / success stories with an .org.uk domain name/website? Do you have an .org.uk website that ranks well in Google??

They rank just as well in my experience. To come back to frank, he hand regged sledges.org.uk, ranked it highly and sold it for £xxxxx in a very short space of time.

The property insurance domain in my sig has been second/third in google for a couple of months now with a totally half-arsed unfinished site on it.

Hi Jonathan

There are a number of .org.uk ranking well in Google in super competitive niches as affiliate sites etc.

Off the top of my head :

PaydayLoans.org.uk - 1
DebtConsolidationLoans.org.uk - 1
Mobile-Phones-Uk.org.uk - 5 (for mobile phones)
DebtManagement.org.uk -8
Watches.org.uk - 9

The majority of the people on the A4U thread just registered the domain on the spur of the moment, as they thought they were getting something for nothing but couldn't be bothered to put the work into getting a site on the domain.

And as Grant said sledges.org.uk was sold for £xx,xxx in December last year. How do I know all this ? because I am Frank :)

If you want to talk further or want some more specific info then drop me a PM

EDIT : I just realised you follow me on Twitter too, so you must have a bit more knowledge on the subject.

I find .org.uks currently work a treat when allied with an exact match domain and solid link building.

By the way, hats off to you Frank for this introductory seo/domaining blueprint you posted for free at affiliates4u.com

Cheers, Tom

What about .org.uk with hyphens in?

That was a great post by Frank.

.org.uk domains are doing well in search engines, no doubt..

I love the .org.uk .net and .org

I have taken a number of sites up with my self taught grasp of seo and to be honest

it helps having a development office , after all if your after leverage then a well indexed aged site makes better profit margins

just sold consolidationloans.or.guk debt-consolidation.org.uk weightloss.org.uk lifecover.net

debtconsolidationloans.org.uk and debtmanagement.org.uk were mine too

but developing, also comes with a learning curve so, take good advice

to lower risk, shorten gestation time , and focus on your projects , there are so many investment s out there, at all levels of the domain/website game

so i hope we get this game open to more and increase the values of our portfolios

also have 2 other sites coming up for sale on page 1 for debt consolidation loans too but not org.uk

and make 2012 the year to develop a great portfolio and 2013 to harvest it :p

sorry the .org.uk and ..org .net`s have been great entries into markets for me
and i am very passionate about them :p

Best regards Steve

have a happy xmas and a great new year

Yes there worth registering.... Web design , host, affiliate etc that has to ask the question really ???? Could take a cynical view that the post is self publicity..... If you were to do so daily, heart, 123 etc are cheaper :)

IT`s possible to look at something in many different ways

the fact of the matter is that .org.uk`s are providing a great alternative to develop

when the .co.uk and com is gone , and is being owned by someone that wants to high a price , as it means the competition has not indexed theres giving you a open run at your

you have paydayloans.org.uk and paydayloans.org.uk making xxx,xxx per month

DebtConsolidationLoans.org.uk making xx,xxx per month consistant site sales

of .org.uk

iva.net well done rob p1 p1 for a very very difficult keyword also

do you think the company the gets the leads is bothered if they come from a .net .co.uk
.org. or org.uk

no they just want the leads , i do see the future changing as Google plays around with its real estate

there is one thing that Google can not mess with , The human way of thinking

if you see the keyword that you entered in the search

and in the results returned the title tage has the keyword that has been searched for

and in the meta description a couple of times and also in the url (keyword heavy domain)

your sub concious goes ther , e fact , and gives google more chance of earning revenue its simple ,

so keyword heavy domains will always have a future

they also improve ctr on ppc campaigns too sorry if i bore you all

Steve

I am working on ranking Retro Sweets at the moment. Have got it to page one so far but hoping to get it right to the top! They are certainly a wise investment.

yep

thats the thing about them they offer the best return on investment

in the purchase of domain costs + developing fees = best possible investment

at lowest exposure cost wise and most return on sale , bingo creation of a great

model easy , you dont even have to monitize then to earn outstanding returns

the .org.uk tag is forgotton after the position at the top is experienced

then you become real proud of them , and the difference between .co.uk and .org .uk narrows as its now understood its about positions and what a sites potential is , instead of being a co.uk or a .org.uk , its not about being brandable on a keyword heavy domain . its about location location location

its about the leads that are being created rather than the extension of the domain therefore costs in buying between ranked org.uk uk and co.uk`s
will become closer , as its based on the supply and demand of the 1st page results of Google , so do reallly think someone is going to get all snobbish

and turn there nose up at the .org.uk with position and knowledge of its potential too no

and i can prove it with my sales i have constantly out performed .co.uk
websites and gone in and gained positions there possible and achievable
but not overnight patient is something i am not and this gestation period
of 12 - 18 months can be very exciting and frustrating too

the thing is you can learn buy your mistakes and move forward again and try
learn and improve i love the whole development cycle and all its opportuinity

too much at times , thats why i stick to my simple "short skirt method"
and location, location, location , and people contact me yipee to buy
if we deal we deal , if not no problem interest has been declared
i have got attention , my site may not be the best in the industry
but could see it working , but also you can see how to make it much better
and return more money and this make the potential buyer more interested

as he can change everything and get it yielding more and thinknig at the back of his mind " what a jerk he does not know what his is doing " and what a jerk i am i just made £ xx,xxx pretty quick with no fuss , of course i want to
gain greater leverage and understand how to convert well and other such things , and there in my mind , but you got to get the basics right of being able to get up the search engine rankings , to start unlocking the value in your domain names , i hope you dont mind me pouring my experiances out and sharing them with you all ;) and yes i am stoned

Best Wishes For Xmas & New year

we have a couple of exact match .org.uk that we developed with basic content , no linking and they are on page one of google ....

so from a ranking point of view they make no different .

as far as building a brand though that is harder with a .org.uk you will always get leakage to the .co.uk and the .com

but if the site is just about lead generation using google to drive the traffic ... then .org.uk are perfect.

@steve well done mate with the office and everything ... are u comming to meetup on thursday ?

Hi Brum :) Good to hear from you , yes your right there could be leakage to the .com

and the co.uk , but often , this are held by people , who have no interest in selling at a reasonable price , or by people , who have gone with bad seo companies and are no were to be seen .

Can you give me ring brum as i dont know which one your talking about on thursday

0788 337 337 0

you number went when i lost my phone :(

Hi Brum

Good to hear from you , hope things are well for you , yes your right about leakage etc etc but often you find a lot of names not sold because of the

very high expectation of the owners of the .com or .co.uk domain name
to sell at a high price , which leaves them sat on the self , or best still
being seo`d by a crap company that has them on page 3-4 lol

which leaves the org.uk or the .net or .org as the top dog :)

Brum lost my phone so lost you number if you can give me a call re Thursday

0 788 337 337 0

Best wishes Steve
