How the hell did OK Magazine do that?

Has it been around long enough to have registered a two letter .co.uk?

I wondered that when I saw the advert.

Then the Whois says "Registered on: before Aug-1996"

Must be renting it ?

Other 2 letter .co.uk are:

1, bj.co.uk
2, bt.co.uk
3, cd.co.uk
4, ds.co.uk
5, eb.co.uk
6, et.co.uk
7, fl.co.uk
8, ga.co.uk
9, gb.co.uk
10, go.co.uk
11, gr.co.uk
12, hp.co.uk
13, ig.co.uk
14, it.co.uk
15, jj.co.uk

how?

i didn't realise 2 letter .co.uk's had ever been available. i knew 2 numbers, yes. shows how much i thought i knew. how though? is it just renting for high sums from nominet? i guess if nominet want they can release 1character. Can they? or would they just rent, like .tv for huge sums for key words?

early reg.

hi.
cheers for that. do you know the earliest ever that a .com could have been regged? i looked at a .com the other day that i'd love & couln't believe it was regged in '86. is it poss.? plus the blokes site couldn't be more amatuerish. (says the bloke who can only do instant sites!). There's a charm in his site though i suppose. Pred

Back in '86 they would have been free, but nobody wanted them. I remember knocking up a few hundred pounds worth of telephone charges on Prestel/compuserve in the early eighties and my dad took away my speccy :p Then I never touched a PC for a long time and missed out on the first years of the dot coms. :(

octopus.com

Interesting stuff, cheers nukemeister! The above domain was the one i liked & it's showing regged in '86 as you say. Back in '86 i was tinkering with an acorn electron & couldn't get past 'cls' to clear screen if i remember right. We sat in computer studies (1 hr week) toying with bbc computers thinking 'this is going nowhere! if only...................................

I thought you could register a two letter .uk if your company or business trades or is known as two letters (but it has to be VERY well known), ie BT.

I remember asking Nominet a good number of years ago and that was the response they gave me.

Good post. There are quite a few 2 letters out there it seems. I know some are pre-nominet. It figures if you are HUGE like BT. But what about ok mag. It's w*nk! No good even for toilet paper!
