Nominet – the guardian of the .UK domain 1996, has been confirmed by ICANN as the EBERO provider for four gTLDs with immediate effect.
.pars, .shia, .tci and همراه. (.xn-mgbt3dhd) were unlaunched TLDs with no registrars or registrants. The EBERO or Emergency Back-End Registry Operator programme is activated when a registry operator requires assistance to sustain critical registry functions under the ICANN Registry Agreement.
The four domains takes the number of gTLDs in EBERO to seven, following .NOWRUZ, .DESI and .WED – all of which are currently under management by Nominet. Nominet are currently working with ICANN and the outgoing DNS provider with the intent of completing the transition with DNSSEC security intact.
Nominet is one of three ICANN approved EBERO providers worldwide that “meet stringent technical requirements and have demonstrated years or experience in operating domain name services, registration data directory services and extensible provisioning protocol services.”
David Carroll, Chief Customer Officer, Nominet said:
“While no registrants or registrars are impacted by these latest EBERO transfers, we have once again been recognised as a trusted partner and provider that is always ready to step into support ICANN as it takes gTLDs under its control.”
