//mum.co.uk £20,000// interesting one, mum.co.uk redirects to mum.com .. has a domain name history on the about page .. and no Goog ads ...

//Mum.com Domain Name

Mum.com was registered on 31 October 1994, making it the oldest generic domain in its category, ahead of Mom.com, registered on 5 December 1994 and Baby.com, registered on 10 April 1995. Mom.com is owned by CafeMom.com, the 819th ranked website by traffic in the US according to Alexa.com.//

I Swear he was asking 1/10th of that amount for it last month...

I bought Mum.co.uk to strengthen my hand with Mum.com. My logic was Mum is a British English word so it has a nice fit with .co.uk and mum related sites are heavily developed on .co.uk.

As far as I know Edwin originally owned Mum.co.uk with other family related .co.uk generics like Dad.co.uk, Kids.co.uk, and Kid.co.uk. He auctioned Mum.co.uk at Sedo in 2007, bidding reached £8,000 versus a reserve price of £15,000.

I believe Edwin then sold a portfolio of domains, including Mum.co.uk and Dad.co.uk, to Domain Invest in Luxembourg. I assume they wanted to sell Mum.co.uk because it didn't generate enough traffic.

Domain Invest raised 10m Euros from venture capitalists in October 2009. Their biggest success to date was selling Voodoo.com for $300,000 in February 2009 during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, having paid $31,000 for it a few week earlier.

Interesting thanks for sharing it.

Hi LastPost

Great way to strengthen the brand, I am quite a way from owning such a valuable domain but with my future technology domains purchased I nearly always secure the .co.uk and .com

I wish you a great future with the domain, just wondered how your planning to generate income, do you have any long term plans for the development?

Kind Regards
Leon

Thanks, I will be replacing the blog with a small store in the next two weeks.
