I've been dabbling in domain name and web development for around three years now but have never gotten involved in drop catching. I just have a few questions for you pros!

1. How do you go about finding domains that are expiring (I understand you can't get lists for .co.uk?)

2. Does it take HUGE amounts of time to stay on top of everything/is it a full time job in itself?

3. Do bots/automated software get in the way when it comes to purchases?

If you can help me with those initial noob questions it would be great!

You'll need to build your own lists, Nominet do not allow distribution of lists any longer (some companies provide smaller lists which comply with the Nominet T&C's, but I suspect there are a lot of bookings based on these lists)

If you automate then there's not a lot of time needed to list build, however, to walk the lists and pick the good ones and do a bit of research takes time (or you can take a short cut and just let the junk drop in 2 years time :))

bots? I presume you mean catch scripts? If so, then a decent catch script is the only way to get a good name if it follows the "normal" drop process.

As a noob, I'd suggest reading and re-reading the older posts from other noobs as there is a lot of good info already sitting in the forums.

Thanks for the response - is there anything in particular you would recommend me reading buddy?

To be honest, I'd work your way through the whole forum, there's so much information to be found in a whole raft of threads. There's no idiot's guide and nobody shares their "trade secrets", but you'll discover lots if you put the effort in.

The more effort you put into building your lists, the less effort you'll have to put in day-to-day. I basically just set up my catches a couple of times a month in batches of hundreds at a time, based on what I've seen going suspended on my keyword lists. But the real time-suck was building those keyword lists in the first place!
