Hi All,
Can anyone explain the how to's and wherewithals in regard to regging a .net.uk?

Do you have to be an ISP?
I read charities can have it but this isn't a registered charity although it is a community project and website for a good cause.

I've never regged one before but thought I try for a local community network and their campaign to help residents but I'm being told there are NOM RULES!

Can anyone provide a bit of feedback before I try to get into this with Nominet, or am I wasting my time pursuing this second level sld?

All the best.

Took about 2 seconds of Googling to find out

Thanks, I've been on that and going through the Nom rules which is a link off that page now.

What I was looking for was any personal experiences and possible workarounds?

Cheers,

You need an ASN number with RIPE basically…

Nominet rules say:
12.2.3.2 AND the applicant either:
• is listed as a local internet protocol (IP) address registry with a regional IP address registry; or
• has an Autonomous System containing hosts in the United Kingdom that is listed with a regional IP address registry and that is
• continuously or at all reasonable times reachable from major Internet exchange points.
I wrote a paper for the UKRAC in February 2022 looking at opening it up (login required):

However ISPs are rather fond of their .net.uk and there is only 434 of them.

So it was decided to open up .me.uk only and remove the individual requirement.

You could always register .uk.net with Centralnic.
