What are your thoughts about how Joe Public views .net domains... obviously .co.uk is best but is .net a good alternative?

Thoughts appreciated...

Might be better to ask who has sites using .net and how to they fair with UK visits and rev.

That then is an indication :D

pudgyrob is your man there but I have a site on page 2 of Google.co.uk and it's a .net

Still prefer the .co.uk though

.net would be next in line for me if com, co.uk and org.uk were gone. Don't think they get as much exact match weight in google but can do well if. CEO targeted correctly in webmaster tools and a few other ways. Email me if you need a hand on this ratty.

The company that I work for uses a .net and we've never suffered in the rankings.

If you have a generic TLD (as opposed to and country specific one) it doesn't amke any difference to search engines. They'll look at hosting location or location set in webmaster tools instead.

I have a fair few hundred .nets and they perform well within the engines and as sites in general. I think people tend to bounce to a .net If they cant find the site on the .com, I only do this when hunting for companies outside the UK though, and also when I'm not googling.

Also. If I'm on a .com site which is industry specific e.g. cars - I sometimes browse the .net just out of interest to see whats there too.

As I monitor deleting .com's and net's I picked up one which I plan to brand as a company very shortly " 3Dinter.net " so i'll be able to tell you more once my experiments over.

I have never really noticed much difference with net com org co.uk.

Joe public don’t even notice most of the time many people using a search engine its more about your web site on the first page of google and near the top that’s all they seem to be bothered about?

Arguably using traditional forms of advertising to promote a site some feel it may be better to have a co.uk

I've always like the look of .nets even though I'm not an SEO expert. I think the fact that iva.net is ranked number two on google for the competitive term 'iva' answers everyone's questions about ranking. An affiliate/SEO expert did buy a few very nice .nets off us recently so they obviously could do the job as far as he was concerned.

Which is 2 places above iva.com ;)

Cheers guys, seo probably ain't a problem with this one, just want to make sure i cater for the lowest common denominator - Joe Public!

Cheers for the help.
