Ive just bought Music Quotes off Aaron and spent a few hours adding a few features.
Ive added the QRCode, Amazon player (to hopefully sell some MP3s) Twitter posting (after moderation), Latest quote etc.
Any one any other thoughts on what to improve before i push for some traffic?

nice purchase, i'd look at brightening the site up, dont think the background really helps.

Is there any way you can get the recent quotes on the homepage, might add some interaction/activity to the site

What about the ability for people to vote on their favourite?

Cheers!
Ill have a think about the bg.

Ive put the full latest quote on the front. I dont think I should add a list of others as it will be too much and if I remove the latest quote it will remove the only real text on the front page.

I Like the changes :) Nice one.
Thanks

Ooo good idea!

cheers

Interesting idea!

I'd echo the background - it really needs brightening up. Not least because it should look similar to the social networking sites that your visitors will use.

Also, the contrast between the text and background is far too little. It makes it quite difficult to read.

In terms of new features:
- autocomplete on title/band names (selecting the band first will help)
- list the most popular bands
- show the most popular quotes by tweet/like on the homepage (and the most recent)
- show and link to all the tweets/likes - this will encourage people to interact
- tell people in 2 sentences why they want to add a quote
- link to the bitly URLs, and/or do a "click to copy"
- add other social bookmarks, not just Facebook & Twitter

I'd think about keeping the quote to under 120ish characters, so you can tweet it fully and include a bitly link. Would most people quote individual lines, rather than an entire verse or chorus? Not sure.

Made a few more updates.
Added the voting up of songs. May add voting down but couldnt get it working right so for now its not live.
Backend, it now checks the posted content for spam via akismet.
Ive also done a v0.1 light style (with switcher). Preview here: http://www.musicquotes.co.uk/index2.php

Looking good mate, on the dark theme the style selector is at the bottom of the page without styling (firefox).

The lighter style works better for me and to further that I'd have the background as note sheets and then the q (in title) replaced with the musical notation that looks like a q - prob not something you're looking to do at the mo but maybe something to enhance down the line.

Cheers

Yeah, aware of that. Ive not actually done the addition bits to that sheet.

Nice idea for the future.

Do we think the light style looks good enough then. I think it looks good enough on my mac but on the desktop running xp it looked a bit bright and i got a bit unsure.

Looks good to me on a LED backlit laptop screen, and my 40" LCD tv. both look fine!

Well i committed to it! The light style is live all over the site.
:)
