Can anyone advise me on SEO across multiple sites?

I have 50 similar domains that make little revenue parked so i'm going to convert to sites with content.

because all are similar i wanted to run from one DB the question is, should i

have a seperate code hosted on each domain linking back to the one DB

or

is can i have the same SEO using redirects or forwards from the URLs to a single main domain? customising the content based on the refering URL?

Urgent - any response appreciated?

thanks

I wouldnt too much about using a database to display the same results, its more of an issue if you have the same html code or link to your own websites.

I use php and I have <? include"www.domain.com/products.co.uk ?> which I am looking at changing.

Then I have load of self links as well.

So those two seperate issues are what I need to change and treat each one as seperate.

If the search engine bot doesnt know that your using data from the same source then it wont make much difference.

Some websites get better hits than others which is why I always end up buying block domains around that idea so I can make money if the popular one drops then the next one might take its place.

Its not that the site will share the same content. Its that i reduce costs and efficency by using one SQL DB

the displayed site content will be different for each site but will all be stored on the same DB for maintenance

what i need to know is do i need to have seperate pages on each domain and not use redirects for the most effective SEO?

thanks

Well it doesnt matter

As I said

if you have self links then it might do more harm than good

If you have domaina domainb and both are domaina/test.php and domainb/test.php

It will be on how the search engine likes the domain name.

You could have 29 block domains and only the 1 makes a decent living out of it.

redirects are usually a big no no but depends on how you go about this.

I think, though you'll have to ask BFTUK for better knowledge, that flat pages, or at least se friendly urls are better than redirects or forwarding.

So you get your software to pump out flat pages every hour or so, or when you redirect you do it as a url rewrite rather than forwarding or redirecting so it is invisible to the spider.

As long as the content is unique to each site it does'nt matter where the data is stored on a database.

You are much better off having lots of domains with unique content (cross linking is fine where relevant)

However the consideration of having lots of domains is of course building individual links to each site.

You may be better of with one large site and just forward the traffic from the other domains (assuming they get some type-in traffic) from that perspective....

You would only ever need one database. The only reason you would ever need more than one database is if you had too much load (lookup volume) on the database.

Don't use redirects or forwards. You need pages under a given domain to do well with that domain in the search engines.

Ok thanks, will be running without the redirects and yes all content apart from the affiliate links etc will be unique.

I dont have much type in traffic for the domains hence this project to try and generate some - if i can cover the investment cost ROI then i'm happy.

as long as i get all the functionality in the design at the begining it should be cool

many thanks - will keep you posted
