MSN UK has changed its domain name to uk.msn.com, to make the site consistent with other international MSN domains.
The change, which is active from 6 December 2005 is said to make the MSN UK site more accessible to users and increase loading efficiency.
There will be no change for advertisers and advertising on MSN will not be affected by this move.
Users who type in the old www.msn.co.uk URL will automatically be redirected to the new domain name, with re-direction continuing indefinitely.
MSN said that a key benefit will be to consumers who use several MSN UK services such as Hotmail and MSN Messenger. The new domain name will ensure an easier transition across services with users no longer having to log in every time they move to a different domain.
This means that a consumer logged in to Hotmail will remain logged in even when navigating to other areas of MSN UK.
The company said that all MSN UK channels will eventually follow the same address format such as uk.msn.com/money or uk.msn.com/cars.
Gillian Kent a spokesperson for MSN UK, said: “After 10 years at msn.co.uk, we thought it was time for us to move home. Our new domain name will mean a better user experience across the board and ensure consistency throughout the whole portal, meaning it’s now easier than ever to find what you’re after at MSN UK.”
