Minimum Commission and Currency

Hello All,

The quarter is wrapping up for us here, and our tech team is putting the finishing touches on several projects that they have been working on. One of them is something near and dear to all your hearts: the minimum commission values. It is obvious that there was a discrepancy in values across the board when factoring in the $/€/£ price of several of our services. Thanks to all of your suggestions (and well-founded complaints!), I was able to get the ball rolling on this issue and changes have finally been made to reflect the realities of the international currency market. The following changes will go online along with our revamp of the Sedo bidding system, which should be some time in the next couple of weeks. I will keep you updated as to when exactly we will go live with the changes. I know there are still some improvements that we need to make, but I hope these tide you over for the time being:

50 EUR <=> 50 USD <=> 35 GBP
100 EUR <=> 100 USD <=> 70 GBP
150 EUR <=> 150 USD <=> 105 GBP

So are you saying the minimum commission on a .co.uk domain sale is now 35 GBP instead of 100 GBP?

Not exactly. Just that previously when the minimum commission was 100 EUR, it will now be 70 GBP, and so on and so forth for the other values. The values for pounds have just been made equivalent to the values in EUR for our services. So, where you would have previously paid 100 GBP, now you will pay 70 GBP. We have not yet revised the minimum commission value for .co.uk domains, as the reasons for having this have not changed. However, in reality, when pricing in pounds you will soon be paying 30 GBP less.

Well at least you're going in the right direction. In reality, it's only 50 GBP as we also get a free 20 GBP wire transfer.

I noticed in other threads when this was mentioned, suddenly no replys from anyone at Sedo or they just ignore this question in any later replys.

Perhaps with this change they might just implement this??

Hi All,

Unfortunately, I'm not any position to change anything on the front page. This ad shows up on all of our front pages, be they .co.uk, .com., .es, .fr, etc. While this doesn't apply to .co.uk domains (don't want to get into why on this thread!), this applies to many other TLDs like .com and .net. So while the ad does not apply to every TLD, a quick price list check will clarify everything.

I've spoken to the people responsible several times before about the issue, but the decision has been to keep the ad up.

Not getting at you Ash, but that hardly reflects favourably on SEDO as a company.

Its misleading at the very least.

I can understand your concerns here guys, but all you have to do is click on that minimum commission ad, and it send you to this page:

It explains what TLDs can be used with the "No Minimum Commission" offer:

TLDs: .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .name, .li, .be, .dk, .de, .at, .ch

We didn't .co.uk's, for no reason, rather these are domains that are less time-consuming with regards to the transfer process.

It also explains that this offer is valid in North America, UK, Australia, and many other countries around the world. Members resident of countries with their own dedicated Sedo version are ineligible.

This is an offer that Sedo has made especially for our US and UK customers, so taking this off the UK page doesn't make too much sense. If Nominet changes its transfer process, we can change our transfer prices for .co.uk, and this offer will be valid on UK domains. But this is still valid on all of the TLDs listed on that page. I can understand where you're coming from, but I wouldn't really say that it's misleading.

No Minimum Commission on Parked Domains With Almost All TLDs!

Very different statements? with the first one being misleading?

I think it's called false advertising. If it was an advert on tv it would be pulled straight away as it's breaking the rules. Does anyone know if there are any equivalent advertising rules for the internet?

Well, our banner on the front could just read: "No Minimum Commission on .com, .net, org, .info, .biz, .us, .name, .li, .be, .dk, .de, .at, .ch only if you live in the US and the UK," but our graphic design guy would have to get a little creative

I originally just wanted this to be a post about the fact that I had just managed to bring the commission charge down for you guys. But it's gone a little off topic since

. I think, as a company, we have given our customers a great deal of access, and have openly welcomed suggestions more than the vast majority of other providers out there. And while we do welcome suggestions for change, we cannot make all of the changes that some may want, and we cannot do it overnight. I hope you guys can understand where I'm coming from here.
Everyone knows that there are terms and conditions that go along with any offer. We've recently broken down our total volume of transfers by TLD, and this offer applies to 65% of all domains that we transfer. 3.8% of our transfers are .co.uk domains, so although this obviously effects all of you more than it might someone from the US, the fact is that many people coming to our sedo.co.uk also own many other TLDs that this offer applies to. At any rate, from what I understand, the current minimum commission offer is set to expire June 30th, 2006. So this will be a moot point in a couple of months regardless.

Just like to say that we appreciate your decision to bring the .co.uk min commission down to a £70 level. It will certainly help with the lower value domains.
