Hi,

If I was to forward (and mask) a number of mini sites to an address on my existing web host would it be detrimental the possible success of the sites.(From a financial point of view I obviously want to get the sites up and running as efficiently as possible for long term stability)

I suppose what I'm really asking is if each site needs to be hosted individually and will seo and search engine rankings/placements be affected if they are not.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Hows toko joes these days :) still as tacky as ever :)

days of yore....!!!

its (thankfully) a long long time since I had the pleasure of entering that establishment!!!

i think its got a 'classy' name now....but that soon fades away the first time you get a beating from one of the bouncers!!!

its a good job that staying in is the new going out or I'd start to feel old!!!

I was thinking for a few seconds - toko joes - that rings a bell - then realised the typo - tokyo joes... I remember going there once!

Paul I have hosting with hostgator and have been with them about a year so far it's been a good experience. They allow unlimited add-on domains and have told me that they are each seen as independent sites with the search engines.

You can also do all the usual stuff like unlimited emails under each domain.
2 of my sites under the hosting are PR 4 in Google and I have a few others that are PR3/2.

The questions you're asking are the same that I was asking about a year ago when I was masking and forwarding. I don't like this method because often you have problems with it.

For example sometimes the pages that are indexed in google still won't be masked and the 'real' url will be exposed. Also I'm guessing that google would see it as one site, possible with unrelated content (if each minisite is unrelated)

http://www.hostgator.com/ (link to their packages - baby/swamp packages both allow unlimited add-on domains)

nb. this is a shared hosting plan with other limitations.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go. And there are probably lots of other companies that do similar stuff to hostgator and so do some research.

i use fasthosts reseller account, £50 a month unlimited domains/websites. ASP and SQL cost a little extra but for minisites its perfect

Its no problem hosting an unlimited amount of sites on a single IP address, the problems would come if you interlinked them all!

The key to interlinking sites on the same IP is make sure that you only link where relevant.

You would'nt link a site about

Coarse fishing with a site about fast cars for example.
