I understand .me is the extension for Montenegro - but I was wondering if anyone had any experience on whether a .me has more successful ranking in Google.com (to a US audience) or Google.co.uk (to a UK audience)....

.....or if it doesn't matter as the extension doesn't belong to either country?

I have a good .me that I want to try and rank. The website content model can either be promoted to a US audience or UK, but was wondering which audience I'd have more success ranking to - from a SERP point of view?

As you say, I doubt they'd be a particular SERP advantage for either country. I would focus more on which country you think revenue potential will be higher.

Rgds

Very difficult in both, I'd avoid altogether if it's something important that you're going to be depending on for search traffic.

I think go for it, try UK first then expand to US.

Make sure you set up google webmaster tools on it. more info here

i've had some luck using the strangest of domain extensions in the past.

good luck

I've got one ranking alright, competitive niche, set it for UK only (the .me is like the .org, net, & com in that it is not tied to any specific country as far as Google is concerned and you can pick the country it is relevant to in webmasters tools).
