Being a city fan and domainer I couldn't help but notice that at the start of the season Manchester City rebranded from Mcfc.co.uk to mancity.com (and have mancity.co.uk pointing at it too).
Unsure if these domains weren't available to them before but make sense as all fans refer to us as man city, global brand so .com and it's similar to manutd.com
Also notice their Twitter posts divert from manc.it which is quite clever as were're mancs and if you stuck a y on the end spells mancity. Unsure why people do that with Twitter. Must be some sort of way of monitoring traffic?
With redirects it's not a huge step for a website to rebrand and if anything improves ranking.
Foreign sites are still separate ie Mcfc.cn
