mass transfer of domains. Is the current registrar obliged to assist?

I have 500 or so names with 1and1 which I wish to transfer to another registrar. I have asked 1and1 to do a mass change for me, but they say they can't and I'll have to chage each individual name's ipstag myself through the control panel.

However, I am informed that 1and1, as part of their agreement with nominet, are obliged to act upon my request.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

not sure about that but i had the same thing wth 123-reg, they wouldnt do it at all. When i inssted, they did it for me next day. i think you have to be insistant.

I'm fairly sure you can do a bulk tag change with nominet. They will have had loads of grief with 1and1 in the past and my guess is Nominet will be helpful. I have a friend just about to go this route for exactlly the same problem.

I'd go down the bulk TAG route with Nominet. £10+ VAT. All done online and transferred in a couple of days with no fuss.

I had the same problem with UK2.net They said I would have to change them all individually (250 names). So I said cheerio!

I can't see that anyone is obliged to provide bulk transfer out, if they provide the facility in the domain control panel, then I would suggest that they are meeting their obligation to update your registration data. Providing your customers with an easy way to take their business elsewhere would not be high on the list for most systems designers
