This is a domain used by the company I work for. Our previous web designer/hoster registered the domain for us, but now we no longer use him, he wants to sell the domain to us. Slightly unethical IMHO, but nonetheless I'd be interested to know what people think the name is worth, for the purposes of arguing the toss with our old designer/hoster.

Yep sounds pretty unethical to me, as the only value in this domain is to you, and has little value to anyone else, so they are effectively holding you to ransom.

You might want to get the domain removed from the title, as the thread will get indexed by search engines.

Nice looking site ekithump,

I'd say that the designer is being unethical and that the domain should have been registered to your employer's company when it was initially set-up.

How import is the domain to the business?

Play hard ball with the designer and threaten legal action if they place an unreasonable price on the domain.

Domains now successfully transfered back to us - the designer didn't raise a stink or try anything on, and we've reimbursed him for registration costs etc.
