If you start to notice problems with your internet connection over the next few days it could be a sign your computer has been infected by cybercriminals.
Almost 20,000 machines are still thought to be affected by a virus called DNS Changer, which re-routes web searches through criminal servers. The gangs running them made money from the adverts shown to users.
The servers were seized by the FBI in November 2011 and were kept running to give users of affected machines time to fix the problem but they are due to be shut down today.
