Traffic source
According to Webalizer stats 99.63% of the traffic comes from type-ins.
Most of IR.net's visitors are simply mistyping _____.net.ir domains (the Iranian .net TLD), which might or might not exist, as _______.ir.net.
For example: An Internet user wants to go to a popular Iranian website, such as www.pnu.ir (a university). However, for some reason he believes the site is located at Iran's .net extension. Instead of entering pnu.net.ir which would be the "correct" syntax (if the site were at the .net extension), he enters pnu.ir.net which is how he lands at ir.net.
At the bottom of http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/ir.net you can find "Where people go on Ir.net". Click on the blue "More ir.net domains" link and you'll see a list of the most popular subdomains. In one way or another, all those subdomains are variations of actual domains.
IR.com is affected by the same phenomenon: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/ir.com
Thanks to its nature the traffic is very consistent at an average of 2,600 visitors per day. I expect that to double over the next decade (Internet penetration rate in Iran is currently at 27.50% of the population, up from 0.4% in late 2000.)
In other words, IR.net was not resolving before I bought it and all that beautiful traffic was going nowhere!
Interestingly, I originally bought the domain because ir means "to go" in Spanish, not because of the Iran-related meaning.
Considering all offers. I've had quite a few offers for the domain but no deal has materialized yet so I will probably accept the best offer if it is high enough.
Payment by Escrow.com, Sedo Escrow or Moniker Escrow. Buyer covers fees. Financing possible with at least 30% down.
Traffic test available at $35/day prepaid.

I bought it through Sedo from the former owner.1) How did you acquire this domain?
Since early March 2008.2) How long have you owned the domain?
Apart from Sedo Pro, I tested the domain at Parked.com, Fabulous.com, Namedrive, and the regular Sedo program.3) What history has the domain had while in your hands? (EG: Did you have it forwarding somewhere at a different time, or using a different parking service, etc.)?
Yes. From at least 2007-10-21 (and possibly from 2005-03-05) right up to early March 2008 IR.net did not resolve at all. You can verify this here (screenshot here in case you don't have a DomainTools account). This coincides with the archive.org history where the last available record is dated 2005-04-25. I just checked and the IP address in question (146.101.4.78) still doesn't respond... maybe it never did.4) Besides the Iranian relationship, do you have any other historical information regarding this domain?
In other words, IR.net was not resolving before I bought it and all that beautiful traffic was going nowhere!
Interestingly, I originally bought the domain because ir means "to go" in Spanish, not because of the Iran-related meaning.
Sure. If anyone else is interested, PM me or post here and I'll send you the past stats with my description.5) Can you show me all the past daily statistics you have available?
