Hey all, I'm not actually a domainer, more of a potential buyer at my wit's end. I'm looking to start a new company, and POS.co.uk would be my ideal solution. I typed www.POS.co.uk into my web browser, and got the good old fashion "oops this link appears to be broken". So i figured it was available. I then went to my web host and tried to register it... but of course it's taken.
I've already budgeted for the possibility of purchasing the web domain, but I'm finding it impossible to actually track down the person who owns the site!
Tried a few WhoIs databases, and nothing came up either.
If anyone has any ideas they'd be a massive massive help, (Or if by some freak stroke of fortune, someone actually knows the owner, even better!)

goto Nominet UK and type the domain name in the whois search, there you will see the persons address. Then write them a letter....Simples......

have your thought about registering a alternative domain?
No match for "posupport.co.uk".

This domain name has not been registered.

WHOIS lookup made at 14:06:50 20-Jul-2009

That's the best alternative I can find to be honest. I've tracked down the guy's mobile number via companies house and left a message for him.
Thanks alot guys, you've been a really big help =)

You do realise POS will jump out as Piece of Sh.. for some people?
Just dont want you to make a mistake with your business name.

Yep, i am fully aware of the possible abbreviation "POS", but Positive Outcomes is a very very well received phrase within Health+Social care.

I saw POS and thought Point of Sale. That's probably because I used to work for a company that made and provided till systems for shops (EPOS) a few years back ;)

Just did a quick check and POS.uk.com is available - it's not quite as elegant as a .co.uk or a .com but it's pretty much the only option available unless you want to try and convince the current owner to sell the .co.uk

I wouldn't register a .uk.com myself. You are at the mercy of whoever is running uk.com, as you only have a subdomain of that,

That's an interesting opinion - the company that run .uk.com are called Centralnic and they've actually been operating as a registry since 1995.

It's unlikely that they're going to be going anywhere as they are currently gearing up to start offering registry infrastructure services for companies that want to launch their own TLD once ICANN finally get the approval process going.

I admit, .uk.com domains will never be as valuable as 'proper' TLD's but they can be incredibly useful when all other options have gone.

Bit the bullet in the end... especially after seeing "POS" for most people means either Point of Sale or Piece of Sh... posupport.co.uk will do fine i guess. Many many thanks guys. =)

It is always a good idea to register the org.uk at the same time as you register the co.uk - prevents a lot of possibilities for future arguments.

Since this is about support, you could consider it the domainer's version of "take a spare truss" ...

Now you've got the domain sorted you need a registration for your car and it just so happens I have POS 4 for sale :)
