"I was sacked by a Google algorithm"

Good read. I think Googles decision was fair as he seemed to allude that he was encouraging click activity by users to his website.

As part of the deal, and as a way of involving the sailors, I tell them about the revenue for the project which all comes from the website. The more the website earns the more sailing I can do, the more films they see.

Oh yes, I was also running little blocks of adverts provided by Adsense and, yes, I told my subscribers that I got some money if they visited the websites of those advertisers – all of whom were interested in selling stuff to sailors.

I thought this was not much of a revelation - as any fule kno that is how it works.

I did get the odd subscriber sending me an email saying that he had clicked loads of adverts. This is called demon clicking. I would reply that I would prefer them to only click on adverts they were interested in.

Shame he did this, as it jeopardised his entire Adsense account, that was spread across many channels.

Why doesn't he just take them to the small claims court, anything under £5,000 and you don't pay for Google's expensive laywers if you lose.

This guy won in the US and I imagine it's easier in the UK. http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/019571.html

Doesn't matter what contract you sign up for if the rules are unfair then the judge can throw it out. The net is full of pages where Google have lost. Obviously a court can't get you back into google but they can't just stop your money without valid lawful reasons even if google rules say they can.

Obviously this guys posts are one side of the story so we can't tell the whole story. From reading his post about his site saying "he earns money from google ads", to me this is giving people incentive to click ads. It is certainly something I would advise people not to post on their sites if they wish to stay on Google.

Other lesson is don't put all your eggs in one basket, if you rely on Google or any single party for your income then you are taking a chance.

I read this yesterday when I saw it on Twitter (good read)

It made me wake up a bit more than I was already to The Google power and for me to try and spread income rev a bit more.

How many here would suffer or notice if Google kicked you out?

Great story, shame that google can't separate the account from his websites and their youtube..

Worth a look. Addiply.com

I placed a few ads with them so lets see if I get any takers.
