There's definitely money to be made in socks. Especially black ones. Check out the following articles.

(And that's what I'd call a brilliant 'sub-niche'. Not just any kind of sock but they only sell black socks for men.)

I think a lot of people, in the right target market, are just too lazy to keep going out and buying socks so a subscription model is ideal for them. Nice new socks each month and people are obviously willing to pay a premium for the convenience and quality (Business owner found a perfect sub-nice within the sock market.). The model clearly works (or it did a few years ago anyway.) if the articles above are anything to go by.
