Hi i have recently purchased a .com domain through afternic and at that point registered many of the relevant cctlds that i wanted and .net, .org etc.. for the term as well. Now the .co.uk is currenty registered but the owner - an individual - has opted to hide their contact details in the whois, so all i have is there name. They have registered the domain with 1and1 but there is nothing on the website it still points to 1and1's default page.

Does anyone have any idea of how to contact this person. 1and1 don't seem to have any kind of domain buying agency like godaddy has for domain registered through them. 1and 1 also don't let domains expire unless the owner specifically jumps through many hoops to cancel renewing the domain.

Domains expire and drop with 1and1 just like any other, so if it hasn't been renewed, you may be in some luck. Alternatively you could email 1and1 asking to forward your details onto the registrant. Failing that, without giving the domain name away, tell us all who it is and if they have any history in domains, it is likely someone here will know how to contact them. There are other methods too, tracing back through the domains history, any past website. Google their name, linkedin profile etc, there is usually a way.

Send emails to admin@ info@ contact@ personsfirstname@ domain name, and see what happens :)

If they all bounce you'll know there wrong,f they don't, wait and see what happens.

Thanks spidermonkey tried 20+ different permutations of possible email address and all bounced. i think i will have to try and contact 1and1 as Ian has suggested and try that. but as i've had lots of dealings with 1and1 (I have three accounts with them since 2006 and about 30 domains ) i know exactly how much of a shit they are to work with!! Any way, thanks guys. Failing 1and1 what about a person finder type service? any suggestions? (sorry not going to post name of person on here)

Hi guys thanks for your help but i think i have found the owner. should have done this earlier but i think its the same person who owns "theirfullname.com" as it is also registered and hosted at 1and1. that whois info has full contact details - address, phone and email available. the domains expires this month so i will wait to see if he renews it if he does then i will contact and see if i can acquire it. thanks for your help on this.
Regards

If it expires and it gets caught by catcher than its possibly you'll end up paying more if the domain is actually worth anything.

the term is good for a very particularly type of brand name, its a not often used 5 letter slang word. so its not majorly valuable in the generic sense in terms of keywords and when i purchased the .com that cost me $2000 after negotiation. but it is valuable to me as i want to build a new company around this term. If it expires i will use a UK based drop catcher my self so i just hope know one else is interested in it.
