just a general question but i know ppl are constantly adding links to there sites, but i was just wondering how often i should change my meta tags and adjust content ect?

If you all do it at least once a week, do you for instance change the whole title...if there isnt new news on a certain subject can you really add or change content often?

I ask as i want to get my pages indexed more often as some are as long as 2 months at a time...

thanks for any advice

My view is doing minor content updates (not necessarily meta tags) pleases the search engines.

Continually building links in to your site is also very worthwhile.

There's no point changing titles and meta descriptions for the sake of it. SEO is an ongoing, iterative process and if you take it seriously, you should be doing it all the time. The above poster's comment about fresh content is correct - you can incentivize Google to recrawl your site if it believes there will be new content there each time (can also help through pinging). Creating this new content also increases your ability to target new search terms.

It would be a good idea to check how often your homepage is getting cached - if it's dramatically more often than your sub pages, then maybe you have some interna linking issues. It might also be a good idea to build some links to pages lower down in your site structure.

Thanks for the advice, my home page is only indexed once a month really (its my business site a 40 page site) to be honest i`m struggling to add other content to my home page, its at the top of google for lots of search terms but no where near the top for the main term...

I`ll pm anyone the site if you`d like to have a look and maybe give me a hint of where i`m going wrong.

thanks

Have you google webmaster account ?

you can send us your site url, i can suggest you a bit.

Why are you not placing your site url here. I think more members can give you better suggestion than a single like me.

Thanks :)

If I got it right : are talking about changing the meta tile and description of your website? I would rather suggest you not to do so because this can have a disastrous effect on the ranking of your website. A slight change in the meta title or meta description section can change the ranking of a website altogether. You can make some trivial change in the content if your website is not performing accordingly.

I really want my home page to be indexed more often as at the moment its about once a month... yet i see other sites (in the same subget as mine) with hardly any content on there home page with high page rank and getting indexed weekly or even twice a week...

what do you mean by "trivial change"?

thanks for the help

Think more important issues are afoot with your site in your sig.

As previously mentioned above, do you use Google Webmaster where you can specify the crawl rate

hi yeah i use webmaster tools on all my sites... altho i dont hve a clue what to do with it... i tried changing the crawl rate (instead of letting google choose the rate) but this made absolutly no difference...
