Hi all,

Another question for you all. How many of you are still buying EMD's? I ask because I've been struggling to sell EMD's with good CPC and search volume for even a cheap price. HomeBroadbandDeals.co.uk for example, it has 1300 local exacts £7 CPC.

So are EMD's dead now like org.uk's?

Thanks,
Dave

I don't think they are dead mate far from it in fact, They just require a whole lot more work than in the past to get them ranking which can be off putting for certain niches.

I cant really be bothered for affiliate sites no more so am trying to steer clear from EMD product domains.

It's a question of quality and competition.

In this case even BroadbandDeals.co.uk is struggling to rank for the term 'broadband deals' - and Broadband.co.uk doesn't make the top 10.

HomeBroadbandDeals.co.uk is therefore going to be a tough one to get into the rankings. The time, effort and cost to do it are too high for the potential reward at the CPC and traffic you mention.

3 word domains are a bit offputting, and there is some risk from the new .deals extension.

Developers face increasing costs and many are now focusing on fewer, higher quality projects.

It's been a while since I looked at broadband volumes, but is 1300 local exacts really that good? I doubt it.

I actually think your domain is quite good, but it's still going to be hard to find a buyer.

Really though, you are a little late to the party of selling EMDs. This kind of domain would have sold easily on here approx five years ago. It's the domainer to domainer market that is much tougher now.

Rgds

Hi mate,

Yeah I know EMD's sold well back then. I was active in the .com scene before .uk scene strangely enough, (been a member of Namepros since 2007) and would always find emd's, reg and flip for low $xxx. I guess I'm kind of stuck in the old ways of thinking they have that kind of value.

Need to get my head around the fact they don't.

Thanks again all,
Dave

i am happy to look at any existing org.uk sites with traffic or domains. If ppl are trying to get rid of them

Would you guys reg a two word .co.uk with 2900 local exacts as another example? ...

its not emd you should be worried about. A domain can be called anything but the content must be quality and other signals. I am not saying branding isn't important but content is king.

Looking lately at a lot of long tail keyword domains with decent sites built on them that no longer rank and the owners are not even left with a credible domain for their website holidayhomesforrentinplacename.co.uk

Lesson, the domain should at minimum be a recognised type in or easily memorised easy advertised descriptive part of the model.

Fewer end users seem interested in EMDs anymore, they seem to be going more for 'brandable' names, even though most of them have no idea how to build a brand
