Hi all,

When I buy a domain I always look to make sure the alternative extensions are available. I'm talking the prime ones here; I normally like to buy the .co.uk .com and .net versions of a domain, and offer them as a bundle.

But do you think this actually enhances a sale?

Also is it worth getting hyphenated versions of a domain?

Maybe I'm just being completist or overly careful, and maybe the end buyer doesn't actually care about these things, so I just wondered if you have any opinions of the above..?

thanks!

When I buy brand domains and there's plenty out there, I get .co.uk .com .net and .eu. I picked up two sets last week. I don't bother with the others like .info, I did used to get .org but leave that now.

It's often helpful to use traffic stats to judge which extensions you should buy.

The only case where I can see it's worthwhile taking a large number of extensions is when you are buying "brand" domains, i.e. a term that is trademarkable, as opposed to generic domains. Where it is a brand domain, there is something to be said for having many extensions so that the brand owner won't suffer from people trying to pass themselves off as the brand.

Rgds
