Hi, I'm Allie and I live in Dublin. Although I bought my first domains in 2001, I'm only now getting into domaining properly (I hope). I bought my first co.uks a few weeks ago.

The co.uks I think are my best ones are:

fancyfrocks, londonlady, senseandsensibility, findthefunds, heirhunt and themayoroflondon.

Possibly my worst ones (depending on your taste) are: businessz and carsz. To me these are business and cars with that little extra something, lol.

I'm hoping to learn a lot on this forum. I belong to a couple of US forums, but I naturally feel closer to those domainers on this side of the ocean.

Welcome to the forum. fancyfrocks and londonlady are both names with potential.

Out of interest, what's the state of the .ie market? Do you know if foreigners can register .ie domains?

Rgds

Welcome to the forum,

What was the first domain you registered in 2001.

cheers

I think it was boysingreen.com and theboysingreen.com, or it might have been pelargonium.com.

There was only a day or so between them, to the best of my recollection.

As far as I know to register a name in .ie you have to also have a business registered in the same name.

I believe that you can now get your own name, but it must be the full name, not either the first name or the surname on their own.

I bought fancyfrocks.co.uk and londonlady.co.uk for my daughter to develop - she lives and works in London. Also, my great-grandmother was born in Cheltenham, so I do have that little drop of English blood that draws me to co.uk. :)

Do you have anything interesting yourself?

Thanks for the welcome, accelerator, dock and dotuk. I'm very glad to be here and look forward to getting to know you all. :)

Hi Allie,

Welcome - I was over in dublin a couple of weeks back, most of my family are from Dublin.

I love the place to bits and the people are so friendly...

fancyfrocks.co.uk is nice

Cheers

Sean Flynn :) ( cant get any more Irish than that )

Hi alie...

Also in Dublin (Swords) bank hol weekend, we are looking to re-locate the tax situation and other fringe benefits are fantastic, our pensioner relies are earning more in pension income than your average man in the st. here in UK.

Bloody expensive tho, mid range bottle of red 12 - 18 euro.

Yes, holgate, and part of the reason it's so expensive over here is that UK firms are charging well over the odds in Dublin. There was a piece in one of the papers the other day, where a journalist went to Marks & Spencer and asked if she could pay for some stuff in sterling. They said, of course, but when she tried to pay the sterling price on the back of the label they said it wasn't enough and gave a much higher price than the equivalent of the euros. Don't know if the outcry will do any good, though. Still, maybe the wine will be good enough to numb your pain. :)

Thanks, StoneRoses. I think 'frock' is such an English name that it goes very well with co.uk, don't you? Do you have anything nice yourself that you're prepared to speak about?

Thanks, neticule.

And a big thanks to you, DB - for some reason I only saw your message when I logged on this morning to respond to neticule's. You're right, you can't get more Irish than Sean Flynn. :)

Hi!

Hi Allie,

Nice to (virtually) meet you! Welcome to the forums.

It's good to hear of Dublin again. My family are mostly from the Skerries area (although they moved to the UK a couple of years before I was born).

I know of a fantasy football team with the name BoysInGreen (Apex)....is there any connection?

Paul

Hi, Paul. You mean does the fantasy football team Apex have any connection with Ireland? I'd imagine they may well do, as 'the boys in green' is the unofficial name for the members of the Irish football team. I suppose they could just have happened on the name, of course, because they wear green.

My son lives in Skerries. It's a nice seaside town in north County Dublin and is much more built up now than it used to be, as of course is most of Dublin. Despite this, when my husband and I were driving home from there a year or so ago a big cat (as in panther-type, not large domestic cat) bounded across the road in front of the car. A surreal moment. :)

Ha! No, holgate, neither of us was drinking. You can't drink and drive here now and, believe it or not, I'm one of the 10% of Irish people who have never drunk a drop. Tea is my tipple. :)

No, that really did happen. Extraordinary.

Hello and welcome to the forum... I also think that this forum is a great place to get information about domains! Well "see" you around!
