Although I've dabbled in domain names in the past I've never really made a concerted effort to turn the venture into anything, so in reality I consider myself somewhat of a 'newbie' in the field.
Quick run down of the story that brings me to this forum: I owned an o2 email address for more years than I care to remember (back in the Genie days) and it was a good clean spam free address that I used for registrations and password retrieval. One day out of the blue o2 emailed me to say they were closing the service.. panic! Could I possibly remember all the websites I'd signed up with using this address? probably not, but I managed to reconfigure the accounts that mattered most to me which still left me with a problem - no 'clean' email address. I'm a big fan of Gmail and I can make the couple of accounts I hold jump through hoops for me with forwarding/filtering etc, but it just wasn't that 'clean' address I wanted.
Over the years I've pretty much established myself online as AndrewDK - so back in December I bagged the domain name simply for the email address and it got me thinking..
Our local bus/train/tram station is under redevelopment and slated to re-open later this year with all the technological whistles and bells that come with a new build. It's always been known as 'Altrincham Interchange' since it was built in the early 1970's and a Google search returns tons and tons of results to this effect, even Wikipdia and Transport for Greater Manchester itself who are responsible for the whole thing call it such and it got me thinking.. surely they wouldn't be daft enough to have not registered the domain name years ago? But they hadn't.
So that's where I am at the moment. Obviously I'm looking to make a profit but I'm unsure what to do next.
The domains altrinchaminterchange.info and .co.uk are currently forwarding traffic to the relevant page on the TfGM website http://www.tfgm.com/altrinchaminterchange/Pages/default.aspx after getting a green light to do so from the official TfGM Twitter feed. These domains also have a complimentary Twitter feed of their own www.twitter.com/altyinterchange and I've attempted to make contact with higher powers that be with no response.
I know this was a bit of a long winded ramble of an introduction but as a single dad of 3 boys and looking after a 78 year old parent with althzimers & dementia I'm looking to invest time, effort and what little £ I have further in something I can do from home - last time I did this it was called 'domain squatting' which sounds bad, now it's called 'domain flipping' which is acceptable?
Looking forward to getting to know some of you guys and hopefully drawing on your experience - I'd appreciate it loads! Thanks.
