What do i need to put in the preferred nameservers fields, does anyone know?

Can i just put my favourite registrars name servers? or do in NEED to put my own nameservers in there - do i need to put anything?

anyone who has used dropcatcher please help.

Hi there

You can enter anything you like...

For example... If you want to transfer the domain to 123-reg.co.uk in the future you could preload them with ns.123-reg.co.uk - ns2.123-reg.co.uk

Or you could just use sedo.co.uk's name servers and park it straight away.

Totally up to you.

Kind Regards

Andrew

you can just leave it blank and it will reg the name using drop catcher nameservers

or if you like you can use your own or sedos etc

Becoming a Nominet Member

Hi all,

I enquired to Nominet about becoming a member so I can register new domain names, and they asked me if I have 2 name servers. Well I don't so if I want to register domains purely for reselling after what name servers can I use ??? I have read on previous threads that you can use Sedo's ?? if so what are they.

Primary name server (ns1): ns1.sedoparking.com
Secondary name server (ns2): ns2.sedoparking.com

You may also need the IP addresses for the name servers
Primary name server (ns1): 217.160.95.94
Secondary name server (ns2): 217.160.141.42

From the tagholder application form:

"Please list the principal DNS name servers that are used by the Applicant. Please list first the name servers that are under the direct administrative control of the Applicant (minimum of one required) and then any additional names servers that may be used by your organisation."

I'm not sure if Nominet mean that you NEED to have name servers that are under your direct administrative control, or if they don't mind if you don't. Ask them.

I'm interested to know how some of you guys register domains on the drop so quickly ? You must have some kind of automated system or use a dropnames host to register them for you ?? Most of the domains I have been watching are registered with the own tags ie pop.co.uk ?

I would guess 95% of good drops are caught by private catchers and the other 5% by third party catchers ie drop catcher.

Of the private catchers theres like 3 guys that pick up the cream day in day out. IMO their aliens sent here by there military to buy up as much internet real estate as posible before launching an invasion on us in the imminent future. But I could be wrong.

O.K if 95% are private how do they catch the domains ?? They must have an automated way of doing this ??

How do you go about running your own nameservers?

I guess I have to run my own DNS server somewhere??

Thanks

Do you have you own servers or are they hosted?

If your hosted..

Ask your host if they can setup two nameservers for you. ie ns1.mydomain.co.uk and ns2.mydomain.co.uk I think quite a few hosts can do this for you, I know folks like hostroute do this.

Otherwize if you have a server you just need two ip's and setup the records.
If your usings a registrar, like say 123-reg then just goto the control panel and setup the nameservers. If your a TAG holder guess you would do that through the Nominet automatron.

Heres an example of setting up nameservers on a cpanel box.. although I doubt it will apply to you, might be interesting reading.

I'm hosted at the moment, although it would be cool to have my own, but I can't really justify it yet.

All the best
