hi guys,
really appreciate if anyone has views or experience with heart

im looking for a reputable uk hosting firm, got 2 dedicated servers at minute, need just the one, have privately, service has got worse and worse
dont want us hosting

dont want crumby hostgator or montserhost or any real cheap rubbish

but heart looked somewhere in middle

how are we feeling about heart these days? does their hosting suck?

and if so, who are the dogs danglies in hosting in uk terms/ if there is such a thing

cheers

If I were you I'd get my own server £300, and rent the location, I have everything I need for £55 a month.

That's my own server, plesk control panel and full control over everything. That is for a server that would beat Heart's and it is yours for good.

Beat's dedicated hosting any day of the week.

I have one with rackspace. I have had it since 2002.

Support is great. I'm no techie, so service is paramount and i have had nothing but good service from them.

The hard drive was failing last year. They replaced it within the hour and mounted the dodgy one. Less than 1 hour later they had transferred all data on to the new one and sever was back online.

Any maintenance required or critical upgrades to software are scheduled to a time that best suits you. I usually get them to do it at 4am.

.

I have heard some horror stories, but take some regular backups and be responsible with the downloands and updates on your server and you'll have no trouble.

I have been going 6 months with no real techie knowledge and saving some good cash.

I am with serversure, they came round my house to show me how to use linux. In the end I didn't need it as I just went for plesk, much easier for non techie's.

Serversure will let you get any computer and host it with them, doesn't have to be a regular server, can be a tower computer from pc world and they'll do the stuff for you.

Dedicated hosting is overpriced imo.

I can't really tell much difference between the rackspace dedi and the evohosting dedi's that I have access/use and the supports even on both. The only difference between Evo and Rackspace is, rackspace cost 30% more than evo, and rackspace look at you funny when you say 1tb a month, how do I get more :p

I don't know how much a new server costs at rackspace as I've never needed to upgrade. All I can tell you is mine is £62 a month and has been since 2002. I use on average just short of a 100gig of bandwidth a month.

The price was set at $99 for the lifetime of the server and it's still going strong.

So if they still offer the same deal, what seems dear now will be a bargain further down the road.

The rackspace server my client has is for porn costs, ummm factor your price x 100 and change times and your at the right price range. I'm more day to day running now, major stuff is done by the yank company (where the client has relocated), but they keep flirting with Rackspace Cloud hosting for the video/picture content but never seem to get around to it, not really my issue any more tho ;)

I'm trying to find the exact quote from rackspace but I can't find it :(

If you need to speak to someone at rackspace, most my sales stuff goes thru James Hayward - [email protected] he's very helpful, if a little full on salesman ;)

Oh and have a read here: http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/affil...-heart-internet.html?highlight=Heart+Internet

I can recommend looking at Memset.
I currently have a miniserver with them and will shortly be renting a dedicated server from them. Nice people, good customer service, reasonable prices.

thanks very much guys for input
will look at rackspace and memset

i heard heart were nice people so thought would consider them, ur limited on number of db though i do like the no set up cost though, setup cost is really offputting

best customer service i ever experienced was nethosted
uk company. used their hosting for a client, no downtime, rapid support, real good
thing is pricy imo
£200 set up  and same again per month for something ok
lots of cash imo

i have a couple of days before have to make mind up!
so what do you reckon?

Look into a company which can upgrade your box without a fuss. Start with low power and move up as you need.

Also VPS is an option, there is a good VPS thread somewhere on here.

ITs also worth talking commitment periods. Most hosts will waive the setup if you commit to a time, or pay multiple months in advance. If you have researched the company, its sometimes worth punting on it.

thanks
also to scooter too

i can see prices on their .com site which are fortunes more than you're quoting
Dedicated Server, Managed Hosting, & Web Hosting Configurations

for some reason they dont print prices on the .co.uk site
i am live chat with someone called 'coral' right now and shes feeding me some crap about they like to offer a tailored service and thats why they dont print prices. i just gave her above link twice but she seems unable to answer

tbh on my first encounter with 'support', she's hopeless and they're pricey .
this support girl is getting worse actually.
shame as i heard quite good but have to go on first impressions and i hate sites that print no prices, rings alarm bells. also reminds me of the two teir system 1 and 1 run. one for U.S and one for u.k

ok, i think its nethosted or heart
