Just some b'stard from Torquay called Simon Burch, who sold me a heap of rubbish on eBay, then refused to give me my money back when it arrived damaged. And the packaging included more dust mites than I have ever seen - had to burn it.

eBay did nothing because the item was less than £15, but I was watching him -

He was well dodgy - schill bidding between him and his sister in law was obvious, and he also used his wife's name to schill bid on his own items!

I complained to eBay numerous times, but they did naught.

I once sent a good idea to eBay, and got a mail back saying that they did not act on members' ideas. I responded by asking why they had a suggestion scheme ... silence.

In the domaining sphere I've not yet been ripped off in a cash sense.

In fact the only adverse domaining experience I can recall was quite the opposite. I got promptly paid for a domain but then the buyer wouldn't answer several emails to give me the info needed to transfer it!!

Eventually the domain just expired...

Yes. Once. £1700 appx. with tag LOT71 which is now defunct I think. Another thread of mine that got trounced.

Got to protect scammers, its acorn afterall :)
Quite. If Alan doesn't mind linking to another forum where all this scamming shit is properly exposed, I'm very happy to do it and accept the responsibility for publication.

The main thing if it ever happens to you is not to let it happen again... Thats the mistake so many make...

Got to protect scammers, its acorn afterall :)

Many a true word.

This place is more like a load of dodgy market traders, than a professional business. However that's how the majority seem to think it should be run.
Almost every 'for sale' topic is hyped and most of the reported sale prices are pure fiction.

It doesn't half make it difficult to convince end users that they are not being scammed.

I particularly resent this comment, coming as I do from a family including market traders. I can say that the people in our family who could talk people into dodgy deals all found their true metier as politicians, and the best salesman was still selling things when he was chairman of the county council!

There are very few dodgy market traders - the Trading Standards and Environmental Health people see to that. The Market is a fixed trading location, subject to Council controls and regulation, even when it is the fictional one you see on East Enders.

On the other hand, most of the members here are self employed, trading from their place of residence, with businesses that only exist on paper. I would say that there is a particularly high standard of integrity on Acorn, considering those background facts.

Perhaps you meant dodgy builders -
