Wanted: Domain Appraisal gridcomputing.co.uk

Not a lot

Name would only be good if someone wanted to be called grid.

Otherwise useless and worth the reg fee.

I think its an excellent name.

Good because it is the generic category descriptor.

It is a high worth product/service too which is neat.

It would be a good information site, and you could sell computer time from it.

It doesn't have a whole load of consumer searches attached to it, but does have some high worth business to business ads listed against the google search.

That I think probably limits its value a little (not much traffic potential) but hopefully it would be offset by some fairly hefty commission cheques if you could swing an arrangement or two by some of the bigger players.

A bit too much work for your average domainer me thinks, but a good domain for the end buyer all the same.

x,xxx to good end buyer.

Me being me, I totally have to disagree with you I've done searches for computing and I've found a co.uk and a dot com and I only tried once.

Just put any name in front of computing its easy enough to do and only worth a fiver.

Only use it has is from a company calling themselves grid the dot com is registered in Australia.

There are thousands of words that you can put in front of computing too make it seem reasonably good.

Deffinatly not one for me even at a fiver

hehe!

I'm sure you could put lots of things in front of computing, but they wouldn't spell gridcomputing!

It's just my opinion and will be tempered by others I'm sure.

cheers

Lets pull one example as I dont want the domain name

ardvarkcomputing.co.uk and dot com available

brakefastcomputing.co.uk and dot com

chargecomputing.co.uk and dot com

deviouscomputing.co.uk and dot com

elephantcomputing.co.uk and dot com

there just random words picked and put in front of computing, and took me two seconds.

So if I can do that within two seconds, I could go all the way to Z but I can only goto h, were learning I J and K next week in class.

Its a pile of dogs testicles being honest

except I don't see Hewlett Packard advertising in google for dogstesticlescomputing but they certainly are (as well as a whole load of others) under grid computing.

Why? :???:

edit: you beat me with a much more helpful post

.....And with every other decent extension taken I'd say its a good £5 investment and definately not 'a pile of dogs testicles'..............

I think this has been registered because its an emerging technology, not just some random word stuck in front of 'computing' :

Ok so its in Wilkipedia so technically this will increase the value but...

A lot of computer users unless they are techno nerds wouldnt know about grid computing so in respects unless you had a techno geek with big pockets its just a name, speaking of which how did you know about grid computing ;)

I read a bit about what it was saying about grid computing and reasonably fell asleep and didnt even understand what it is.

Looking at it again its sort of like a network that uses processing from computers around the World such as S.E.T.I.

It might have some value in the future IF grid computing becomes a common buzz word at the moment people would just look at gridcomputing.co.uk and think just a shop name.

So its probaly worth more than a fiver after all but only to techno geeks.

I found out about it a couple of years back when I was looking to find someone who could sell me computer time for some computer intensive stuff I was imagining I was going to do.

Never happened.

I understand even amazon now sells its computer time.

If the buzz word did actually take off then it would be very useful and worth a lot of money in itself.

You could charge people for using other peoples computers and then pay people who let you use their computeres processing power.

So in respects then yes it would be a SETI type scenario

As far as I'm aware there are companies that already pay people for the use of their processors or was years ago anyway.

So in respects the value of this domain depends on how popular the name grid computing becomes, but as you mention a couple of years and it never happened then............

Possibly not going to happen, but you never know.

I did the training/accreditation for Sun about 6 years ago... its big in universities, biotech research, oil and gas, etc.... all the big server manufacturers invest massively in grid computing..

Its a decent name... would make a nice wiki ;)

Well as I'm being corrected by my Man City fan then chances are yes it would be worth a lot of money now.

If gas and oil companies are using grid technology then the domain could be used as a website for a company either as a redirect as its not so much a brand name, or someone using it as a direct name for the technology.

So good news your deffinatly looking at more than a fiver now lol

If I owned it and knowing what I know now, I would copy the defination from wilki or whatever it is and just sit on it until some interest.

The ordinary man on the street etc still isnt going to know what it means, so its not going to be worth much to an ordinary person, but will be worth more to someone in the know.

Well thanks for the comments. Guys. I am not really sure how to monetize this domain in the best way. It doesnt have the be the best traffic in the world. I like the wiki idea the best. I guess I could set up something...what about a forum, can anyone recommend that?

I like the wiki idea the best.

Gee did he say that he liked my idea the best lol

In some respects I dont think you can make much from this website in terms of sales, you could possibly make some if you pushed it enough but......

If you put up a computer shop say for example on the website, then you could make money but.......

If say for example I was a business and I came across the website that I wanted to purchase, and I saw that you had some grubby computer business on there, personally I would say here is 2k go and sod off and play somewhere else.

If for example you have the wiki stuff up about grid computing, then anyone that came too you with an offer would in theory

offer you more money as they would know that you know what the domain is worth and know why they want it for.

As I say I didnt know what grid computing was so my valuation of a fiver and a waste of time and money was wrong.

In some respects I still think that the domain is worthless too a degree e.g marketabilty but if a uni or a business comes along then you hold a trump card.

You could try putting some ads up for PC companies but in some respects I think that this would devalue the domain rather than enhance it.

I think sitting on the domain and then making a website which explains grid computing and putting a business style template on it to show you mean business would be a better way for you to go.

I wouldnt try too make money from this apart from a domain sale, depending upon how much it cost you, if it only cost you a fiver, then just sit and wait and swallow the five pound loss if need be.

Maybe put up a tasteful google ad, but deffinatly dont park this domain, let it breathe and wait.

Remeber as a wise man said

Wax on, Wax off (karate kid)

Regards

Mark

lol

I was hoping I wasnt the only one that had noticed that...
