There's a blog entry on changes to Google local search results at http://blog.autorevo.com/2013/06/ne...utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=local-carousel (indirectly found thanks to a blog entry by Owen Frager).
As an example, I'm seeing it for lots of UK placenames using Firefox on a desktop PC to search google.co.uk for 'things to do in [place]' with no quotes.
It's interesting from several angles, including the user experience, the lack of a visible domain name and the positioning of ads (eg selecting London Zoo from the ribbon when searching for things to do in London).
