Thanks for the article, had a read through it now!

I remember hearing whispers about this about 2 or 3 years ago but its nice to hear it confirmed.

Personally I like to see more creative contenct effort going into site's SEO rather than just abusing meta tags!

they may not use meta tags for search placement,
but they may use them for other things , that would make it worth while putting them in

Google is not the end of the search road, if you concentrate on appeasing google you will lose Bing/Yahoo etc.

I learned this in my bounce rate experiment, in my experiments, I have tripled almost quadrupled the visitors, taken the bouce rate down to LESS than 1% on 5000 uniques a month, increase page views per person by 50% to 6-7 but in the process reduced time on site to 90 seconds and cut search engine referrals by EVERYONE but google down to less than 5% of the total.

Bing was the first casualty, I used to get about 100 a month, now I get 10, yahoo 6, same story all thru. I'm not sure why I upset the other search engines while google is lapping it up but its a hard learned lesson that working on 1 search engines traffic has cost me at least 300 uniques a month, and with my new stats that may have been 3000 by now for I know.

Moral of my story, who cares if google use em ? they are not the only fish in town :)

I heard years back that the keywords were obsolete with google, but other search engines still check for them so it's advisable to continue using them. Even if it does not boost SEO, it can't hurt to have a dozen keywords in the meta tags.

I agree with FagEnd. I too have heard that some other search engines use the keyword tag so always put a few of the major keywords per page into it.
