Hi all, a while a go I had a sound track put together for an online radio station. I've still got a copy of the recording.

I'm toying with the idea of paying for it to appear as a radio advert on a local station, then with help of google analytics check to see if theres a visitor increase from my local area in which the radio station broadcasts.

It will be using a generic domain name so would be easy to remember

Has any other domainer/affiliate tried this?

Here's the recording YouTube - Magazine Subscriptions

The ad sounds great, unfortunately I've no experience promoting via tv and radio so I can't help.

I'd be interested to find out how you get on though, what sort of rates do they charge for the advertising at a local station?

No experience of trying this I'm afraid, but I'd be very interested to hear the results if you do decide to give it a go. I'm not sure how accurate Google's geo-location feature is within analytics, it certainly isn't going to be 100%, but I guess at the end of the day it's going to give you at least a reasonably decent indication of the effect of the advert, which incidentally, I quite like.

Right, off to mop out the loos now... :D

I've just sent an email to my local station (Galaxy North East) I'll let you know how I get on!

you want to target a certain hour/s of the day that you know will be heard better from the domain your advertising. ie: magazine subscriptions - best time i recon is the drive time home slot or drive to work slot when you know people are stuck in traffic listening to local radio :)

I don't mind the ad, but wouldn't spending your money on targeted advertising where the call to action is more immediate be more fruitful in terms of conversions?

Doing a lot of this sort of advertising (ie Radio / TV / Magazine) has been the downfall of many a cash rich startup over the last decade due to the fact that it doesn't convert well.

If you are going to do it, I'd try wording the ad in a way that overcomes people's common objections to this sort of thing or makes them smile rather than making it purely straight and informational - you need it to stick in people's minds for a period of hours - ie the time period between listening to the ad and sitting at a PC. I'm a TV producer by trade pre domains btw.

Regards

Ty
