Freebies are free by definition so I think the extension suits quite well in this case. I may give it a try and develop it within the next three months if I have enough time.
How can I monetize this kind of site? Is it even worth developing considering my very limited abilities in in this field?

It's a proven sector for a site ... get people interested in freebies ... but you would have to work very hard at it against seasoned competition ... so probably not the best place for a new developer to start.

The domain is OK but really needs to be the .co.uk as then it could be brandable.
