It seems that the people that have the most success in domaining are those that do their research and spend time actively marketing their domains and approaching potential clients with domains for sale. - No surprises there obviously!

I was wondering if anyone had any hints and tips on how best to go about this, or even if there were any examples of form letter knocking about.

I was wondering about a few things such as when to disclose pricing, or request offers, who is best to contact, MD/CEO or IT/Web dept.

Sorry, I don't think I was clear enough

I meant that I was the owner of the domain and I was approaching potential buyers.

it depends who you are approaching.

are you approaching existing clients or random persons/companies?

If its a letter you are writing, I would keep it short and sweet and straight to the point.

you dont have to write a big letter explaining that you own the domain bla bla.

At the end of the day if they feel the domain will be of value to them they will buy off you. The domain name is only valuble to someone who knows how to fully utilize it, and gain a decent ROI from developing a good site on it. most companies don't know this, only webmasters/web companies do.

In my experience a of lot companies dont understand the power of the big g yet! and if they do, many are going about it the wrong way. like throwing money into adwords!

It might even be worth developing a mirco site, then advertising 'domain for sale' the homepage

There are many different angles you can look at.

hope that helps

It'll be random people and companes

certainly something i intend to do with some of the domains i have obtained.

atleast with a micro site you can show potential buyer details of traffic, search rankings etc

Go someway to swaying the deal

I think in your letter you need to convey the benefits of owning the name. Edwin's site, Memorable Domains, has some good resources explaining why generic domains are so good.

Was just about to mention Edwin!

have purchased a few domains from him.

Definitely worth a look, although I am unaware if he approaches people direct. He has a reputation, and I imagine most people go to him, hence the prices of his domains.
